The mission of the Georgia School Boards Association is to ensure excellence in the governance of local school systems by providing leadership, advocacy and services, and by representing the collective resolve of Georgia’s elected boards of education.
We want to thank you again for taking the time to apply to the 2020-2021 GSBA Youth Advisory Council. We understand that this is an unknown time for everyone and, therefore, have made the decision to extend the video deadline until April 13, 2020. We hope that this will allow those who were planning on filming their video in their school environment either the time to do so or the opportunity to reorganize and plan a new approach. Please contact us with any questions or concerns at YACCoordinators@gsba.com.
We will keep you updated should anything change regarding this timeline. Please remember to exercise the necessary safety precautions when it comes to filming your video and COVID-19. For more information on the prevention of spreading, please visit here.
The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) was formed by the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) to give high school students the opportunity to provide meaningful input to school board members. The goal of the feedback is to help aid school board members in their decision making and implementation processes. The YAC Coordinators are comprised of GSBA staff and will serve as a resource to students enrolled in the program. Through this program, we hope that students and school board members can achieve greater awareness regarding academic programs and school climate.
The mission of the GSBA Youth Advisory Council is to serve and enhance communication among students, teachers and board members within the state of Georgia. The council advises the board members of student interests and provides recommendations on topics ranging from academic programs to school climate.
YAC members will have the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and contribute to their community by affecting positive change for students across Georgia. Not only will these discussions impact the lives of other students, but it will also provide valuable knowledge for public education leaders throughout the state. Topics that the students will be exploring include:
