MAR. 12, 2018 – We join in a statewide celebration to salute the efforts of local school board members. March 12-16, 2018 is School Board Appreciation Week in Georgia. The weeklong observance calls attention to the contributions of local boards of education. View the Governor’s Proclamation HERE.

“Service to the local board of education requires a commitment and desire to positively impact students and communities,” said Valarie Wilson, GSBA Executive Director. “School board work is some of the most challenging but most rewarding opportunities available to support the development of strong and resilient young people and communities and we appreciate the time, effort and devotion these public servants dedicate to our schools.”

As constitutional officers of Georgia, school board members are responsible for setting educational policies, employing school personnel, providing buildings and equipment, operating a transportation system and disbursing school funds. As community leaders, school board members serve as advocates for the children in local public schools and must study, evaluate and decide what actions are in the best interest of those students.

The Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) sponsors the celebration.
