Local Georgia School Districts Receive GSBA Safety Grants

The Georgia School Boards Association, Risk Management Services (RMS) is pleased to announce the 2019-2020 Safety Grant recipients.

The grants are available to assist and improve safety in local school systems.

“Safety of Georgia’s public-school students and faculty have been and always will be a priority for us,” said Valarie Wilson, GSBA Executive Director. “We are excited to provide an opportunity to highlight and support our school districts in their important work of educating children.”

This year’s total grant money awarded is $60,000.  The GSBA RMS received over 50 applications which represents over 50% of the RMS membership.

GSBA Director of Risk Management Services, Mr. Cliff Cole stated, “Our Risk Management Services staff are committed to ensuring our member schools receive the supports and resources needed to implement safety programs and procedures.”

All applications were sent to the GSBA office where a selection committee read and reviewed the entries.  Three representatives from different departments of the GSBA Risk Management Services division reviewed the anonymous applications.  All were evaluated on a comparative basis.  After careful consideration of each application, the following were selected:

Bacon County                                       $2,306.95
To purchase one bus camera system

Chattahoochee County                      $4,198.86
To purchase floor mats, cutting gloves, safe cutter, thermo insulated gloves and thermo grip gloves for the Nutrition Dept.

Chickamauga City                               $4,212.14
To purchase anti-slip mats for facility entrances and near water features.

Emanuel County                                 $2,440.75
To purchase twenty-five (25) floor mats to assist in preventing some of their slip, trips and falls by students, staff and visitors.

Evans County                                      $4,900.00
To purchase a 20 camera security system for their alternative school.

Habersham County                            $2,500.00
To purchase additional flooring mats to assist with the number of slips, trips and falls in the district

Lumpkin County                                 $5,000.00
To purchase safety footwear for nutrition and custodial staff

McDuffie County                                $4,686.86
To purchase NOAA Weather Radios for their facilities and camera systems for three school buses

Meriwether County                           $5,000
To purchase a GateKeeper Bus Camera/Tracking System

Monroe County                                  $3,000
To provide for Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) registration and associated costs for three system staff employees

Muscogee County                              $4,977.51
To purchase anti-slip, trip and fall footwear for the custodial staff

Pelham City                                        $5,000
To purchase eight (8) stop-arm cameras for school buses

Quitman County                                 $1,675.24
To purchase one (1) Angel Trax Bus Camera System

Seminole County                                $2,870.36
To purchase mats, hand trucks, step stools, pan racks, and first aid kits for the nutrition dept.

Wayne County                                    $2,819.97
To purchase a ten (10) camera security system for their recently relocated board office to prevent vandalism and other risks
