Welcoming students back to school under normal circumstances is a gargantuan task, but you are now in the midst of preparing to reopen schools following months that have been filled with uncertainty, stress, and social unrest. Through it all we must find the energy and will to press on by providing our public education students, and the staffs that serve them, with leadership, opportunity, safety, instruction and hope. While it is difficult to sort out and we do not know what tomorrow holds, we do know that our students and staffs depend on our schools in urban and rural areas.
Many of your districts are in the midst of planning for the upcoming school year. There are a multitude of issues to address when determining what opening schools will look like. Through partnerships with our counterparts in other states, along with GSBA staff and professional resources from a host of partners, we have developed and compiled a guide of recommendations to consider for the re-opening of Georgia’s schools.
We encourage each governance team to review these recommendations together. Ensure that as a board you ask the essential questions that support and allows the superintendent to manage the day-to-day operations. Remember, the governance team must work collaboratively to create the re-opening plan, implement it and evaluate it.
Again, GSBA recognizes these are merely recommendations that you might find helpful as you develop your plans. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we may be of assistance.
