The GSBA Rural Task Force is pleased to announce findings and recommendations for rural public education.   The Rural Task Force has worked since last October via face to face meetings, webinars and surveys to determine the top four topics, recommendations and resources to cover for FY19. The rural task force will continue to work though additional topics in FY20. This is an ongoing process due to the many different areas of rural public education that requires attention. The top four topics for FY19 are funding, early learning, healthcare, and teacher recruitment and retention.

The impetus for creating the task force is the growing number of issues facing rural school districts, and an increase in the requests for innovative solutions to the challenges of dwindling student populations, increased poverty, a lack economic development and other opportunities.

This task force determined resources, best practices and new initiatives to support our students, teachers and administrators. We also explored policy implications and developed resources to better inform the General Assembly around their approach to rural education.

By selecting from the GSBA districts, we were able to ensure participation of board members and superintendents throughout Georgia.
