GSBA Superintendent Search Process

GSBA’s professional search team advises the board during every step in the search process while ensuring that the local board retains total decision-making control. GSBA helps school boards by responding to requests for information, establishing a search timeline, seeking community input, establishing selection criteria, advertising the announcement of vacancy, checking references, providing interview training, facilitating candidate interviews and finalizing the selection process. GSBA uses a 17-Step search process, providing turnkey services and supporting the local board in maintaining legal compliance and best practice selection techniques as they move through the selection process.

The Application Process

GSBA uses an online application process, enabling applicants to create a new application and/or update a prior application to be considered for a posted superintendent position. There is no general application for Superintendent of Schools.

The application includes general pages where the applicant is expected to provide the following information: Work Experience/Employment, Education, Certification, Statements concerning Achievements, Honors, Interests and Activities, Relevant Life Experiences, Why Superintendent’s Role in Specified District is Desired, Education Philosophy, Professional References and Personal Affirmation.

While an applicant may use the same general pages for any superintendent position, the application also includes specific pages where the applicant is expected to respond in narrative form to each required and preferred criteria listed for the specific superintendent position for which the application is made.
