Overview

The GSBA Board Recognition Program is designed to foster excellence in board governance through a three-tiered system consisting of Quality, Distinguished, and Exemplary levels, with Exemplary being the pinnacle of achievement. This program aligns with state governance standards, offering school boards innovative avenues to enhance their effectiveness and earn recognition for their commitment to excellence.

Submission Requirements

Please review the submission requirements below for comprehensive guidelines on submitting your entry to the GSBA Board Recognition Awards. This section provides detailed information on eligibility and how to submit your nomination for award consideration.

The following requirements must be met in order for governance teams to be eligible to apply for the board Recognition Award:

Training Requirements: Board members must meet all training requirements by 5:00 PM on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

Application Level: Boards may directly apply for any award level for which they meet all the criteria without progressing through lower levels. To maintain their current level, boards are required to reapply annually.

Application Window: Applications are accepted March 29, 2024 – July 26, 2024.​ All materials, including the final application, must be submitted by Friday, July 26, 2024 at 5:00 PM. 

Examining Requirements

Award Platform Registration: GSBA uses Award Force, to streamline the Board Recognition Award application process. This enables applicants to input information, upload documents, and adjust entries up to the submission deadline.

Existing users can log in to access application materials, while new users can register for a free account to apply.

For FY24, updates and new criteria have been added to all three levels of the program. Ensure you review these changes carefully in the board recognition criteria document, where program updates are specifically highlighted in red.

Important update areas include:

  • Governance team self-assessment
  • Local board of education training requirements
  • Accreditation
  • Fiscal responsibility
  • Recognition consideration and/or removal
  • New templates available for specific application sections

Review Requirements Board Recognition Awards

Application Submission: Applications should be submitted via Award Force by Friday, July 26, 2024, at 5:00 PM. No applications will be accepted after the deadline. Applications may be submitted starting March 29, 2024.

Award Notification: Recipients will be notified of their recognition on October 2024.

Award Ceremony: Awards will be presented at the December GSBA/GSSA Annual Conference.
