Empowering Voices: Students Shine in GSBA Video Contest

The GSBA proudly sponsors an annual student video contest, inviting public high school students across Georgia to unleash their creativity. This year’s theme, “Show us a positive way to brighten a teacher or staff member’s day!” inspired a diverse array of heartfelt tributes to the unsung heroes in our schools, including custodial, food service, administrative staff, bus drivers, counselors, school nurses, and coaches.

A panel of board of education members from across the state, constituting the GSBA Awards committee, meticulously reviewed the submissions. They assessed each entry for its alignment with the theme, production quality, and originality. Adhering to the rule that each video must be one minute or less and produced without professional help, students were encouraged to explore various formats, from commercials to music videos, resulting in 48 verified contest entries.

The climax of this creative endeavor was at the GSBA/GSSA Annual Conference on November 30, 2023, where the top three videos were showcased. The winners, selected for their exceptional ability to communicate impactful messages through visual storytelling, received prizes of $1,000, $500, and $250 for first, second, and third place, respectively. These awards contributed to the winning schools’ fine arts or video production programs, further encouraging the pursuit of artistic and expressive excellence among students.
